Moving Day Reminders

Personal Items to Remember to Have With You on Moving Day:

·       Identification & Important Documents

·       Wallet & Keys

·       Phones & Chargers

Preparation for the Move:

·       Notify Neighbors: Inform neighbors (in person or with a note in their mailbox) that you'll be moving out/in. Let them know the date and time that the movers will need to park in front of the house and may require extra parking space for a large truck on moving day.

·       Plan for Kids & Pets: Arrange for pets and young children to be off-site with a sitter to ensure safety and minimize distractions.

Furniture Protection:

·       Felt Furniture Pads: These are essential to prevent scratches and marks on hard floors, especially from frequently moved furniture like dining chairs. The nickel round size is most common, but a variety of sizes is helpful. Movers will usually assist with placing these pads. Make sure you provide them for move-in day.

o   Recommended Pads:

·       Shims: Keep some handy to stabilize furniture or shelving on uneven surfaces (e.g., in the garage or basement).

Tools & Supplies:

·       Basic Tool Kit & Picture Hanging Hooks: Ensure you have the necessary tools for any last-minute assembly or adjustments.

·       Protective Liners: Place liners in kitchen and bathroom drawers and cabinets to protect them from soil, moisture, and crumbs over time.

·       Sink Protection: Install waterproof plastic liners or silicone mats under kitchen and bathroom sinks to prevent damage from potential pipe leaks or cleaning fluid spills.

For the Movers:

·       Floor Protection Request: Contact your moving company in advance to request floor protection. Remind the crew supervisor when they arrive on moving day.

·       Bathroom Supplies: Make sure the bathroom at each location has hand soap, all-purpose cleaner, toilet paper, paper towels, and a trash bag for convenience.

·      Water/Drinks for Movers: Keep drinks available to help keep movers hydrated throughout the day.

·      Optional: Lunch & Tip for Movers: Consider providing lunch and/or a tip if you're happy with their service. It's a nice way to show appreciation.
